I wasn’t paying attention to my subscription renewal and the info for my card on file had changed. I ended up being a free subscriber for almost a full day. Even got an email offering 20% off the renewal which I promptly deleted. Had to take zofran to help ease the nausea. Still haven’t told my wife or kids. Seppuku isn’t off the table yet.
Recently followed an anon on X that turned my attention to a YouTube channel called The Electric Underground. Fantastic channel with great analysis on videogame design and structure and would recommend for the paid subscribers.
Yes! He’s great with actual explanations of game mechanics and elements rather than mere play throughs or “REEEEEEviews” critiquing everything. It’s amazing how popular he has become just from the love of the game while living in Idaho. His friend Boghog is good too for even more intricate game design (https://youtube.com/@boghogstg?feature=shared) but he posts mostly on Patreon it seems now.
I need to check out the others listed on his channel. I def like the on camera presentation where the background visual is him inside of a tube TV and the fact that he just holds a standard mic vs the finger pinch micro mic or podcast mount taking up half the screen. One of his vidss got me to re install Doom (2016)
His main interests have been SHMUPS and beat-em-ups, and yes I reinstalled Streets of Rage 2 after his analysis. So good. Put me right back to the good old days. But he’s not nostalgia baiting. He’s explaining why these games with their arcade mechanics rewarded ingenuity from the player and getting as much as they could out of each moment. So much of modern games is unnecessarily cinematic and bloated with empty fetch quests. He was the first to bring the power of the arcade model to my attention.
This, correct, insightful, and cutting-edge analysis is what I pay $5/month for and, as your loyal patron, I can only plead with you that, next time, this kind of earth-shattering material be placed safely behind the big beautiful paywall because this kind of information is frankly dangerous in the hands of the free subscribers and it is borderline irresponsible of you to post it for them to see

And yet, you’re back as a paid subscriber.

That Dale Earnhardt documentary on Amazon rules. It’s like First man. Only seen the first episode though. It’s cool.

I do agree with him on the tedious bloat aspects of many modern games althoughI still stand by Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 on the vibe aspect.
i would like you to do a feature length commentary on a film that i can play as i watch the movie. like a director's commentary or a rifftrax.
Something happen? No? Didn’t think so.

Not gonna lie I thought Elon insinuating Trump was a client of Epstein meant that Something Would Happen. Oh how wrong I was
