Anytime it snows, I always think of those nights staying up late to play Max Payne with my friend in middle school. There's something timeless about the atmosphere and the sound of his treads on the snow as junkies plot against him around a corner.
Max Payne and the comic book series "Sin City" by Frank Miller are always my favorite pieces of film noire media. The "Big Damn Sin City" collection is one of my prized treasures with Miller's composition and stark contrasts breathtaking. I purchased it at $100 and now it goes for $855.99 + tip on Amazon (https://a.co/d/6pAfUqT). It's pretty much the only retirement plan I got, man. Thanks Joe Brandon.
Such a cozy game, great memories of Max Payne. I remember getting into modded levels for Max Payne 2 which had built in music - there was one built to look like the Chateau scene from the Matrix 2 with a Type O Negative soundtrack - played it a million times over Christmas vacation
Never got into Max Payne. Truth be told everytime I heard the name my brain jumped to this old 3D animated show called Max Steel that was on during Saturday mornings. I don't know if it was the same animation studio for all of them but there was a whole bunch when I was a kid.
Max Steel
Action Man
Beast Wars
Beast Machines
Even a Starship Troopers show
I'd looked at some clips in the past few years and the 3D animation does not hold up. These comic stripes on the other hand look great and would be an inspiration to put animated slides as cutscenes into a game.
My friend was really good at the game, but I was pretty bad. I couldn't make it past the female sniper level. I liked the aesthetics and storytelling more than anything else.
I found this video essay on the open world elements of Conundrum’s favorite franchises: Halo, Cyberpunk, and Stalker. The essayist had an interesting take on Halo Infinite in terms of its call back to the original aesthetics and open world. I know you also are a huge Halo fan. Thought you might like it:
I've got nothing to add for the comic so here's some movie talk. I recently saw Fight or Flight and while it has fun action scenes it's a nothing movie. The plot is basic and doesn't need to be there. The whole time I was thinking that Con Air is just a better movie in every regard. If you're too poor to go to a theater this Memorial Day and see Tom Cruise, the last great action star, in Mission Impossible then on Con Air and have some fun. You've earned it.
The Wahlberg Max Payne movie is the worst film ever made. It literally killed people.
I had to watch the real Mark Wahlberg masterpiece to cleanse the palate (https://youtu.be/ZjpUfdjYR6s?feature=shared)
Is we getting a Max Payne retrospective?

We need a Mystery Grove “GTA VI Trailer 2 breakdown, 10 Details you May Have Missed” podcast!
I actually never played the Max Payne trilogy, but I’m assuming they’re great since they were developed by Rockstar
Perhaps ill look into getting/playing them
I enjoyed all three games
