The admin needs to just ignore the online right completely, zero value in these people

Will's avatar

You can argue there is actually negative value in dealing with the online right because of how inept it makes everyone look.

Belte's avatar

I would argue that the admin should pay attention to key online commentators (ie MG, Greer, Night Owls, etc) but not engage with them directly. The online right has brought up some good ideas but the personalities are just too unstable to deal with in any capacity it seems. I’m sure Vance or his people follow key online people but don’t try to reach out lest they sperg out like this woman.

We need Rhodie to have a direct line to the President

Belte's avatar

Also, give him the big red button. The one that works (unlike Rocket Man’s).

Swagaman's avatar

That would be good Deterrence.

Vials's avatar

Oh most certainly

DR is literally retarded. Why would you sperg out on twitter before doing a cursory internet search about your 1st Amendment rights?

Too many people on the right have raped souls.

I'm beginning to realize that I'm part of the problem. I retweeted it thinking maybe she'd been set up by a bad actor.

should stick to schizo posting.

She's out here throwing fits and meanwhile on her home state of PA democrats are winning the district Trump was shot in.

theglistener's avatar

Unbelievable she has the following she does. I recall she had a very public chimp out regarding very spurious allegations that “Patriot Front” or “Groypers” were hill staffers, and promised to go on a doxxing campaign.

Ben Mordecai's avatar

I've been skeptical about her for a long time sort of along the same vein as Christopher Rufo, but my approach has been that several of these guys have notched big wins for us and so while I'm not going to have a posture of trust, I'll let them keep stacking wins.

This blow up completely screwed up her credibility, but at the same time Data Republican could very well continue to do valuable work in her area of expertise which is data analysis from public sources.

To give her a little bit of credit if you're not familiar with releasing leaked documents. It can be genuinely scary to think that you might open yourself up to legal liability over some opaque rules that you're not familiar with. Observing the zealousness that January 6th protesters were prosecuted. I think leaves everyone feeling legitimate, feeling the need to watch their back when interacting with the government and the potential for lawfare.

If I were in her position, I probably would have not released the documents simply because even if there was a 10% chance that I got prosecuted for something, it's not a risk that I'm willing to take for the sake of my own family in exchange for a little bit of Internet movement.

The problem was the way that she handled herself. She could have politely declined without specifying the reason. In fact, SR directly gave her that out by saying that she understands if she only wants to work with open sources. Even if you suspect it in your heart that it was a setup, the trick is to just not make any accusation and avoid it in the future.

She not only made it public but she had a big crash out and threw a real ally under the bus.

If anything, the hysterical rhetoric from the retard right is just a constant betrayal fantasy. When everything is treated as betrayal, it becomes impossible to ever work and accomplish anything.

If anything, beef import gate has demonstrated this. Some self-important merriweather farms or something called a 90-day waiver for beef tariffs to promote Imports at a low cost "Betrayal." We get it, you are a beef producer and you have strong opinions about the beef industry. It's okay for you to have opinions about the beef industry. But jumping to call this betrayal is why the right becomes dysfunctional. You could just say that you don't think this is good for the industry. You could say that this is going to directly impact you as a producer and your ability to profit from a harvest. But calling it betrayal implies that Trump looked these people square in the eye and said I'm going to kill your business to get back at you for... Who know why.

It's like the sort of main character syndrome that a lot of these Tiktok moms have. They genuinely think that other people should be invested in them as a tragic hero for doing what, nursing a baby and changing some diapers? It's important that people have good lives, but these people are not important in a broader sense. It's okay to just be a normal person and not need to be the character in a drama.

The beef issue is obviously a political problem because people are feeling like food is unaffordable because they can't afford beef, beef is comparably high compared to other groceries, and so inflation and affordability statistics are skewed by a few outliers.

People can just accept that the world is complex and there's a lot of problems that involve compromise solutions. No one wants to think that way. Everyone was busy mocking Joel Berry for talking about using beans to stretch the beef in burritos. A week later Trump negotiates away to get lower beef prices and the same people complain about it.

It's part of a wider issue of people just having these betrayal fantasies, and looking for the bad in every situation, which is why I think someone like Data Republican would immediately jump to the conclusion that someone is setting her up to get her arrested rather than just accept that if there was something illegal about what she was being asked to do, it would have been mistaken. Or whether she could get clarification about the legality of the leak.

Ultimately, we're going to just need to keep trying things so that we can get good people filtering to the top. The whole reason anyone knows who she is is because she's very skillful in dealing with public data sets. That type of skill is something that we need in a lot of different fields and the more people like that that we can find the better. But we've got to improve the environment and have some way of teaching these people to not act like freaks.

I think there's a reason that people used to be put through Katillian, or etiquette classes, or executive coaching. It seems like it can be hard for people to be both competent in something and able to navigate these complex social dynamics. And liberal politics got so toxic so quickly that people were genuinely traumatized by the things they witnessed and are expecting betrayal around every corner.

Totally agree. There are a lot of good accounts that could be used other than this unstable woman. Captive Dreamer, Scott Greer, Patrick Casey, You, even Nightmare

Forgot about Rufo and Lomez. So many better options

Social media was a mistake; I'm sure many of these people would be fine if they were publishing with gatekeepers and editors checking them.

Ben Mordecai's avatar

I go back and forth on this because the alternative to social media is just having morons who believe whatever the TV says or the New Yorker. Most of the toxic behaviors you see on social media have origins that go back decades or centuries.

I made this point recently about the tiktok moms for Lindsay. I think social media plays into their vanity but the substance of what they're doing has been around forever. As a culture, we've accepted that women are allowed to abuse men and we just kind of laugh about it. That mentality just gets accelerated when social media gives the tools for it.

The gatekeepers were replaced with commies, we need new gatekeepers. The current system is broken. Rebuild it.

It’s so incredibly obvious she heavily used AI to draft her original posts as well as her apologies which adds another level of unnecessary carelessness and shows that her “apology” was even more meaningless. Should be immediate grounds for demonetization.

I pretty much exclusively use twitter to find memes to send to my gf now and dunk on retarded takes. The discourse on that site is less than useless. Just yesterday I saw Thomas Massie the “libertarian” defending high tariffs on beef to countersignal Trump and I’m just like what are we doing. No one even pretends to have positions anymore.

Matthew Beckman's avatar

More and more I feel that Twitter monetization was a mistake. There's just too much incentive to make up bullshit for clicks and views. The cacophony of lies has mind raped far too many.

Martin Riggs's avatar

I'm not surprised you didn't want to re-activate. Twitter is basically over. To the extent that Musk buying twitter helped Trump in 2024 and allowed some of "our" ideas to get out there, it's clear to me that that period of usefulness is over. Most of Musk's changes, like monetization and integrated grok, have been a disaster. Combine that with the general psychological and mental decline of the posters on RW twitter (much of it brought on by the Israel-Gaza situation) and the continuing third worldification of social media, and you have a recipe for a completely unusable platform.

Swagaman's avatar

In the past if something bad happened people would get a lawyer or some kind of gifted rhetorician to help absolve themselves, like if a nail bomb goes off at your concert and you want to continue promoting nail bomb immigrants you get a good writer or maybe a team of writers to craft a statement. Now you can just ask AI to absolve you.

I go on a couple of times per week, and because DR did such good stuff in the past I assumed she was right and a government official had been sabotaging the Administration again.

This is very frustrating.

It’s just all so tiresome.

Took this situation to further refine who I follow. Happy Captive Dreamer & others called out DR for trooning out over a nice gesture
