Happy new year! I love the podcast. On New Year's Eve I watched Miller's Crossing. It was fantastic and I might never have found it without you. I also watched Michael Mann's Thief and found it very similar in theme. James Caan plays the titular thief who is looking to put his life straight but needs that one big score. The cliche is only the back drop. You need to watch it because it is amazing in keeping the tension up and exploring the psyche of this man struggling against all odds to steal the life of his dreams

The Podcast episodes are excellent with the recent book review on the Civil War in particular. In these current times where historical events are routinely "Disneyfied" into hokey tales of absolute good/evil binaries, it is important to understand that everything has nuance and complexities. More historical book reviews with your additional insights would be nice. The American Indian wars is especially fascinating with the book "Empire of the Summer Moon" standing out for its balanced, even-handed perspective on the Comanches and Texas settlers.

I think you'd really enjoy Robert Caro's biographies of LBJ, particularly the third volume, Master of the Senate. Beyond the interesting subject matter, it's fun to read the internal struggle that the author (who is clearly an old school lib) has between his hero worship of FDR / New Deal and its progeny and his revulsion at what a fucking dog LBJ was. It's also a very inside baseball account of how the sausage gets made in the legislative branch.

As far as fiction, Pynchon's Mason & Dixon is a brilliant 700 page meditation on what the meaning of the New World actually is. It's a slog, but is very worthwhile.

Lastly there is a movie that I think about often because it's simply the worst film I've ever seen. It's called Captain Fantastic from 2016. It occasionally comes to mind as I remember some horribly cringe and libtarded part of it like how the eponymous character insists that his family celebrates Noam Chomsky day instead of Christmas. If you need something to hate watch, I highly recommend it. Keep a list handy of all its accolades and awards if you do watch it; it adds to the experience.

Happy New Year, Mr. Biden

Great podcast so far! I would really like for you to do a review of the new “Leave the World Behind” Netflix movie produced by Obama. It is flawed but has some intriguing ideas about how widespread violence might play out in America today and what might ultimately cause it. It’s pretty odd that this is the first movie an ex-president decides to get made.

Happy new year. Really enjoyed the podcasts + history stuff so far. Godzilla was kino. I need to pick up robocop eventually. I found Armored Core worth my time, especially since it cuts out a ton of the "fat" associated with AAA titles. Get the mission, blow up stuff, get paid. Better times had smoother experiences like that.

I watched the Outpost due to the podcast.

It was fantastic.

Eastwood looks and sounds exactly like his dad, kudos to him for putting in the work.

The other actor who played the other main character also a great performance.

The action sequences really well filmed, take you right into it. Several long takes which were well done (the bridge scene, numerous parts of the final battle)

Movie punches above it’s weight all over the shop.

Orlando blooms accent is a lol but overall don’t sleep on watching this!

Happy New Year to you. Good to hear you're going back to more written history articles as I'm not really a fan of podcasts in general.
