Loved the last pod great stuff! If I remember correctly in the halcyon days of MGP a book about mannerheim was to be published but fell through, I was wondering if you have the original could you do an episode on it, or the general topic. Seems to be on brand especially considering your other articles. 😀😀😀😀😀😀
This is a random question, but have you seen the (relatively) recent Russian TV series “Wings of Empire?” It is set between 1913 and 1921, and is very good and is beautifully shot. I would greatly enjoy hearing your thoughts on it, though I really enjoyed it.
It is pure kino of late Imperial Russia at the very minimum. While a few scenes are racy, it also relatively clean (ie: does not descend into gratuitous sex/violence at every turn as many historical dramas do today).
Conundrum. I highly recommend seeing “Weapons” out in theaters right now. It is the horror movie of our time. I cannot say more and after you see it you’ll understand. God speed!
Have you read Stephen Kotkin's biography of Stalin? 3 volumes so far, and only gets up to Barbarossa. Well worth checking out for a more in-depth account than Robert Service's.
Also, I just started in on Tsuyoshi Hasegawa's "The Last Tsar: The Abdication of Nicholas II and the Fall of the Romanovs."
Saving this before it gets deleted like the movie list.
“Hello, based department? Yeah, you’re going to love this one.”

One down, one hundred books to go until I finally find out how to Wrangle a Baron
Going add a few of these to the TBR

Great list, Mr. Grove.

I read the first volume of Kotkin and really liked it
