In my never-ending quest to provide more value for paid subscribers, I’d like to announce a new genre of posts: Watch-alongs. These will be posted every week, each on an episode of a given show (link provided). They’ll include my thoughts/live reaction and hopefully your thoughts as well in the comments. The idea is that while you’re watching you can scroll through. Aside from observations, I tried to throw in trivia where appropriate.
The first series will be the The North Water (2021), about a troubled surgeon who signs up for an even more troubled Arctic voyage in the last days of the whaling industry. It’s a classic adventure story that’s boosted by the great acting of lead Jack O'Connell and villain Colin Ferrell (barely recognizable). My hope is that everyone watching the same thing at roughly the same time will make conversations more productive.
Like any respectable citizen, I purchased The North Water on Amazon. I really did like this miniseries a lot so I end up rewatching it every few months or so. If you’ve already purchased the show but, for whatever reason (not passing judgment on your motives), don’t feel like opening the Amazon app to view it, you can also stream the show at https://soap2day DOT id/tv/the-north-water-qzlj5/1-1 .
My thoughts to follow. Please, tell everyone what stood out to you in the comments below. Anything particularly profound will go in the Weekly Roundup.
