Weekly Round-up 10/5/2023
The belly of the world
Welcome back! Another very productive week, I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to keep up at this pace but I’m enjoying it while it lasts. This week there were a variety of articles, from the second part of my recounting of the bribery trials of Civil Rights hero (and pro-terrorist fraud) Clarence Darrow to thoughts on what identity wayward Americans should gravitate toward in these harsh times (their own).
Articles next week will include a paid-exclusive piece on the 1915 attempted anarchist bombing of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and some more reflections on the (pointless and destructive) desire among rightwingers for debate with leftists. I’ll also be announcing the second Patrician Ultraman Group (P. U. G.) subscriber-tier classic game night. I think we’ll stick with Zombie Panic! Source this second time around. The first game night had a full server for hours and was an enormous amount of fun. It’s also in keeping with the rapidly-approaching Halloween season.
On a tangentially related note, I’d like to take the opportunity to beg for more subscribers. Please, become a paid subscriber today. The paid subscription is only $5 a month and helps me out a lot. Every new subscriber really does mean a lot to me. Not only do paid subscribers get exclusive posts like history articles and Watch-alongs, but members of the Patrician Ultraman tier (which is only $15 more annually than the regular subscription) get access to the monthly game nights. I’m literally begging you. It’s disgraceful and off-putting, I know: please upgrade to paid right now. I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I do. The process only takes a few seconds. It really does make a difference for me.
There were a staggering 8 new articles this week.
ACLU hero Clarence Darrow bribed juror to try to free bombers who killed 21 people (Part II) (Free) - Follow-up to last week’s introduction to the L.A. Bombing case. This article covers the actual juror bribery scheme carried out by hero of American justice Clarence Darrow. If you want to catch up before you start, you can find Part I here
Watch-along #3: The North Water E3 (Paid) - Continuing live commentary and coverage of the classic adventure miniseries The North Water. You can find links to the previous Watch-alongs as well as the show itself in the article
Post-Post-American Identity (Free) - Reflections on a very important topic today: American identity. The article rejects proposals to “move on” from America (and drop immigration as a core issue), whatever the real world situation is, and proposes a new path forward
What should conservative music be? (Free) - Thoughts on how to build a conservative culture to last in very hostile modern conditions. I propose one of my favorite musicians, Johnny Horton, as a good example to take cues from. It’s important to lighten up a bit
Stop asking for the Nashville massacre manifesto (Free) - Offers a (in my opinion) much needed new perspective on the controversial decision not to release the manifesto of the trans Nashville spree shooter. I think people need to stop looking to leftists to validate their concerns. They’re not going to be convinced by “proof.” What’s happened here is pretty obvious, and giving the killer a voice could lead to unforeseen consequences
