Welcome aboard to all the new subscribers since our last update and welcome back to everyone who was already with us. It’s been another productive week. The first entry in the soon-to-be-ongoing series on the first Red Scare was posted (covering the Sacco and Vanzetti case) and quite a few articles tracking the aftermaths of leftist roadblock shootings during the 2020 George Floyd riots went up.
Next week I’ll be posting the second article in the Red Scare series. It will provide an introduction to leftist radicalism of the time by detailing a forgotten series of “protests” conducted by socialist IWW members in March 1914, during which armed mobs stormed churches all over New York City.
The Red Scare articles should proceed in rough chronological order, though in my research I am constantly finding new bombings or other interesting incidents that have been covered up during this period. I’d like to preserve the record of them in some way.
My hope is that by the end of the series, people will have a broad view of the first Red Scare and understand the response to it. Today, the prevailing historical narrative is that rightwing officials created an atmosphere of hysteria to justify arbitrary civil liberties violations. In reality, there was an enormous wave of organized violence, unrest, and terrorism from leftists that was only stopped through the use of extraordinary methods. I’ve got seven articles written already, with several more in active development.
On that note, I’d like to take a moment to beg for more subscribers. Please, if you like the content that’s been posted for free so far, become a paid subscriber. I know you can’t see me right now but I look absolutely pathetic. I’m pleading. There’s a single stubborn tear in my eye. These history articles take a lot of time and effort to write. I promise you will enjoy them if you give them a chance. The paid subscription is only $5 a month. Just open your settings, click on “Subscriptions,” select Conundrum Cluster, and then press the big beautiful “Upgrade to paid subscription” button. Every subscription makes a difference for me. Thank you very much to everyone who’s already subscribed.
There were 5 new articles this week.
Sacco and Vanzetti were always guilty (Paid) - Provides an overview of the Sacco and Vanzetti case, placing it within the context of the surrounding leftwing terror wave and other unrest. Although a “wrongfully accused” narrative has been built around the pair over the last century, it turns out that the evidence against them was pretty overwhelming and they were both members of a terrorist network
It's taken Utah more than 3 years to bring a BLM gunman to trial for shooting a driver in broad daylight (Free) - Outlines the case of Jesse Taggart, a BLM activist who shot a driver at a roadblock in Provo, UT during the 2020 George Floyd riots. Taggart’s trial still hasn’t begun and another BLM activist who pulled a gun and chased the victim at the incident received no jail time
Signs that a regime is on the brink of destruction (Free) - Offers a checklist of events that certain online rightwingers persistently argue are good, somehow
BLM gunman who shot a driver in the head has charges dropped, sentence reduced, eligible for parole in 2026 (Free) - Tracks the case of James Marshall, an Alamosa, CO attorney and former public defender who nearly killed a driver at a BLM roadblock during the Floyd Riots. Marshall received a much lighter sentence and much more support from the legal community than one would expect for shooting an innocent person in the head
Judge gives BLM gunman 70 days in jail for firing at car on highway, hitting bystanders (Free) - Gives an overview of the attempted murder of the occupants of a Jeep that had the misfortune of encountering a BLM roadblock in Aurora, CO. The shooter, Samuel Young, received the sympathies of the judge. The article sketches the relatively-unknown (but very revealing) infrastructure behind this incident and proposes more detailed solutions to the problem of these roadblocks in general
Alright, that’s all. See you next week. If you have any suggestions for new articles, leave them in the comments underneath the catalog below.
