This Substack will collect my thoughts on history, culture, and other assorted topics. I’m really hoping it doesn’t turn into pure commentary on whatever the controversy of the month is. My focus will be on historical narratives that have mostly escaped notice but could use more attention because they’re very relevant to the current situation. I’ll also throw in book and movie reviews wherever appropriate.
It’s important to clarify that MG is still retired. This is an entirely separate project without the involvement of most of the people who made the earlier one so well regarded. I know the disappearance seems hard to understand for many, but bits just get old. Everything ends eventually, and it needs to. We accomplished what we set out to do by bringing back those very important books. They’re not going to be hard to find anytime soon. MG was always intended to be a side project, its former employees have moved on to other things. That was a group effort, and this Substack can’t pretend to speak for other members of the group.
The regular subscription ($5 per month/$60 per year) will have access to just the articles on this Substack. All articles will be limited to paid subscribers, except the TV list. I will put out at least two articles per month. The “Patrician Ultraman” yearly subscription (anything above $75) will get exclusive question/suggestion/discussion posts and have access to monthly classic game servers to come. Game nights will be announced in advance and include install instructions if the process is complicated.
The first planned game is Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat (the original 2007 standalone mod), though I still need to make sure that the server works.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy what’s to come
shut up and take my money
Glad you're back. Missed your content on Twitter. Didn't catch the retirement announcement and feared the worst.
