Someone has surely written on this before, but- what are the odds that season two of True Detective was intentionally scuttled for hitting too close to home? I haven't watched it since the premier but at the time I was disappointed and thought it a massive letdown after season one. But could it have been mangled in the writer's room or in production? It's fine to suggest that white Christian preachers in Louisiana are engaged in ritual sexual abuse, but in California? In Hollywood? Unthinkable.
I’ve heard that there was a cut Scientology plotline that you see briefly in the hippie cult that many of the older characters (mayor, Ani’s father, surgeon, etc.) were members of
As if I couldn't love the show any more, Damon Lindelof allegedly fired the guy who played Michael for calling him racist
It's fascinating how every show he does is about people grappling with the existence of God. Plus even if Watchmen literally made George Floyd into Jesus, it portrayed post-reparations America as a dystopian hellscape with a libtard secret police who attack white racists that are actually completely correct about the nature of the government they live under
This just occurred to me after reading your comment, but I think one of the things The Leftovers gets exactly right is that the concrete results of a miracle in the modern world are:
1) The spawning of a new government agency and piles of additional government paperwork and government jobs pushing said paperwork around, as seen in Nora and the Depart of Sudden Departures-
2) The proliferation of cults, which seem to be places for mentally ill people to congregate and emote without attempting any philosophical grappling with the situation, but this could only because of-
3) A new law enforcement arm meant to disrupt any non-governmental organizations trying to seriously rebuild in a world that operates much differently than what we moderns expect.
Haven't watched the show in a while so my memory may be off.
I watched the first season of Counterpart as it was coming out - fantastic show, and the shocking yet somehow "pedestrian" climactic event at the end of the season fit the tone of the show perfectly. Will have to check out season 2.

Do you plan to expand this list periodically like that other list that definitely does not exist?
No plans, but who knows
Have you watched Godless? What did you think of it?
No, will check it out
As your favorite show is Lost do you have any thoughts on Lindelof's follow up The Leftovers?
I liked it, especially the second season. The third season lost steam pretty fast, unfortunately.
