Historically, it was understood that a certain percentage of people had the right stuff to push a country forward, and one extremely smart person in the right position can create more progress for a society than 1000 working class people.
This isn't to say the average Joe is useless, but that the elite classes are responsible for creating social controls to ensure the more average of a population can thrive, as well as ensuring the cream of the crop from the lower classes get recognized and move up the social ladder. There's also supposd to be "soft" eugenics to ensure the most productive factions have lots of kids. Growing up in a rural area, it's not the wholesome chungus the right tells you it is, though there is far less dysfunction than society at large. Most of the smart faction leave, and most of the dumb faction does too, leaving the town smack in the middle IQ median. Nice place to live, but hardly the place you'll find political upheavals.
For how things used to be, take a look at the book "The Idea Factory" and read how much effort was made to find raw talent in small rural towns in the midwest and how these same people created the innovations that set up the modern world.
You pride yourself on being a respected, popular, and credentialed academic who is rigorous and intelligent. You get grossly outperformed in book sales by a schizophrenic sex tourist who harasses elderly people in public. YOU ARE GAY."
To really understand voting patterns you have to also look at the results by married versus unmarried, race, and gender. Steve Sailer had some interesting analysis in 2016 that the proximity to both white disfunctional death (e.g., opiods) and black crime were great indicators of whether voters picked Trump.
Great piece. Thank you again for stressing that the GOP needs to organize middle class voters. The "missing white voter" made Trump win in 2016 and Youngkin win in 2017 under adverse conditions. Can do so again for Trump in 2024.
Thank you also for pointing out that w/o buy-in from traditional Republican elites, middle class political revolts tend to be directionless and fizzle out. Model should be the state-level tax revolt of the 1970s that gave enormous energy to Reagan in 1976 and 1980 and introduced middle class "hooligans" (in poly sci sense) into GOP and Reagan's admin. Trump's policy successes (trade, China, economy) all had buy-in from (some) old line Republicans. Challenge in 2024 is to get this dynamic to apply to immigration and foreign intervention
Underpants gnomes? Steal the right underwear & the world will beat a path to your door. Hey it worked in Japan, vending machines, selling used undies worn by a real Japanese schoolgirls!
Sadly I suspect there'd be a market for dirty underwear regardless of gender, age or ethnicity of the original owners in far too much of America today.
Metaphorically there's a lot of dirty underwear, both stockpiled and moving through the market today, monetarily benefiting the uniparty.
Can we change that, go back to normal? I don't know, are there enough today willing to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor?
Are there any, in a position to change things, with sacred honor?
Shame. Straw Dogs was a big one for me though I haven’t revisited much since I read it
Always important with someone like Gray to remember that he’s a public figure and for all his post-liberalism etc up til recently had a mainstream academic job and gets published in legacy outlets. (I think he retired from his university job). I’m not saying these aren’t his real views but he always has to stay on the right side of the line
I never read BAP but I did read everything Evola wrote. Sounds like BAP did too. It's hard to imagine a real counterrevolutionary elite rising from the goulash soup of American society. I'm hoping for a paradigm- shifting event but preparing for a decades-long slide into the abyss.
This probably will not be a popular observation but in my many decades of life I've come to the conclusion that anyone who becomes instantly popular or hits the top of the charts....was deliberately positioned by those in power to do just that thing. I don't believe that Mr. Anthony's rise with a song on the System's Billboard 100 (rather than say YouTube) is organic and that for some reason it was planned. Not sure what the reason would be, perhaps providing a safety valve for working class conservative outrage, but I very much doubt that it's positioning is organic. People need to be wary of overnight sensations.....they usually take a while to concoct. Remember the song about "Old Shoe" from the movie "Wag the Dog"? ALWAYS BE SKEPTICAL.

This crab bucket mentality is a great way to ensure your movement never gets anywhere.
Regardless of the merits of the song, because there are many wonderful artists who are never heard on a mass scale.....how does an unknown musician get a song on the Billboard 100 today without having an "in"? What are the mechanics of that? Who heard of this song or this artist before this placement ever happened?

BAP? Yeah, I know that BAP guy, met him a few times in Coeur d'Alene. His real name is Lane Pipe.
Hum, a couple of reviews, without noting any data to support such, state that Costin Alamariu self acclaims he's the BAP.
"I'm BAP."
"No I'm BAP!"
Etc etc etc

Everyone loves the underdog nobody wants to be the underdog.
"If you want to win elections get the white man vote"
Ann Coulter, stated before Trumps election.

I see a few different books called "The Glorious Cause" - can you clarify which one you're referring to here?
Middlekauf, I've got a short review coming. It's fantastic
Surprising. I figured all the "oxford histories" stuff were compromised at this point. Eagerly awaiting the review!

With the how fast information spreads online, things can go viral quickly. Also as the saying goes, it takes a lot of work to be an overnight success.
