Liveblogging President Biden's Do-or-Die Interview

Hi folks,

I’m still finishing up my move to Whole Foods and bad tattoo land. I promise there will be podcast episodes on The Bikeriders, Horizon, Bladerunner 2049, and Command and Conquer ‘95 coming soon. My last liveblog on the first, and probably final, 2024 Presidential Debate was very well received so I thought I’d do another one of these for President Biden’s big interview tonight.

This is an election cycle with a lot of interesting firsts. The biggest is the literally do-or-die stakes of the election for President Trump. Although the criminal cases against Trump have taken several hits lately, if Trump doesn’t win in 2024, Trump is probably going to spend the rest of his life in jail. Biden’s interview with George Stephanopoulos, premiering primetime later tonight, is another interesting first.

I had been skeptical that the Dems would replace Biden, it’s a big shakeup and a bigger risk for them, but now I’m convinced that his days are numbered. Biden’s debate performance certainly was terrible, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. He’s been bad for years and people just ignored it. Now, however, it seems pretty much everyone has been given permission to notice our dementia-addled, corrupt, and incompetent President’s rapidly declining mental acuity.

The results these changing winds are not great for Team Biden. There have been several waves of fierce criticism of Biden, along with high level leaks intended to take him out. Although Biden’s potential replacements, VP Kamala Harris and Governors Whitmer and Newsom, have all publicly fallen in line, high-level Dems are just playing too rough for there not to be a serious effort to remove Biden underway. They are saying and doing things that can’t be walked back.

Although Biden’s team has been resolute that he will not be forced out, Biden agreed to an unprecedented interview with George Stephanopoulos airing tonight at 8PM, with the tacit understanding that this interview was going to be Biden’s last moment to prove to the American people that he is not retarded.

8:35 - I was expecting to enjoy this more but it’s just depressing to see an old guy struggle to justify himself like this.

8:38 - Biden is clearly fighting a losing battle. Honestly he’s more coherent than I was expecting but the wind is just out of his sales.

Final analysis: I think he’s done. There are unconfirmed reports that he’s having some kind of health episode right now, which I strongly suspect are just a meme. If this interview was supposed to be Biden’s only chance to prove he’s still a strong horse, he’s certainly failed. My guess is it’ll go to Kamala (who will probably do just as well as he would) so they can keep the donor money they’ve raised already. People are underestimating how much support she’ll bring in. I think this is going to be a very close election.
